Homelessness

(Problem in a Nutshell)

People grappling with substance abuse disorders and mental health challenges are often unfairly stigmatized as potentially harmful, although only a minority actually pose any danger. This unfounded perception deters suburban workers, shoppers, tourists, and residents from frequenting our commercial centers. Consequently, it exacerbates the existing 30% commercial vacancy rate, leading to diminished revenue and property taxes, along with an increase in vacant storefronts and underutilized public transportation services, which are already subsidized. Moreover, the presence of illegal camps, coupled with associated hygiene issues, crime, and vandalism, detrimentally impacts the well-being of all community members.

When reviewing news reports, it may appear that the government is exhibiting a lack of proactive measures, demonstrating sluggish progress, and holding significant financial reserves.

Economic Justice and Empowerment

Advancing and improving the economy of Portland will necessitate an approach that addresses various aspects of business, infrastructure, workforce development, and community engagement. Here are some tangible solutions that I am  considering as a candidate for the City of Portland, District 2 Councilor:

Environmental stewardship

Portland, renowned for its lush greenery, progressive values, and commitment to sustainability, stands as a beacon of environmental stewardship. However, as the challenges of climate change intensify, it’s imperative to push the boundaries of eco-consciousness further. In this political campaign, we propose actionable strategies to enhance environmental initiatives in Portland, ensuring a greener and more sustainable future for generations to come.

Quality Education

Our children are our future, and it’s our responsibility to invest in their success. I am committed to supporting our students and educators, advocating for robust funding and resources for our schools, particularly focusing on providing quality education for students of color who have historically been marginalized in our education system.

Your Tax dollars

Portlanders are among the most heavily taxed residents in the nation, and rightfully so—we have consistently voted for services that reflect our values and priorities, from education to community services. However, it’s crucial that we ensure our tax dollars are effectively and efficiently utilized to deliver tangible results. I am dedicated to maximizing the value of every taxpayer dollar, prioritizing transparency, accountability, and fiscal responsibility in government spending.

Return On Expenditure

Ensuring that taxpayers’ money is utilized wisely and effectively is crucial for our community’s growth and well-being. As a taxpayer myself, I understand the importance of government officials maximizing the value of every tax dollar. Without clear goals and measurable outcomes in place, taxpayer money can easily be wasted on programs that do not benefit Portland communities.
